Since the church's founding, churches that have remained true to the faith have shunned any notion that we can be saved by our own works, for "by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight" (Romans 3:23). But because of a narrow cllinging to that one truth to the exclusion of others, modern Evangelical Christianity has almost completely lost another Biblical axiom crucial to the salvation of our souls: the necessity of striving for the Kingdom of God. Two classic works on this theme are the following: "Pressing into the Kingdom of God" by Jonathan Edwards (1703-58) . Excerpts from The Narrow Gate by John Bunyan (1628-88). Take the Test!
